about

Premiered at Florence Kopleff Recital Hall at Georgia State University April 22, 2014.

Composer Notes-
Shrouded Divulgence was heavily influenced by my upbringing and the interactions I have had with many individuals throughout my life so far. Growing up, I was raised Catholic, and a big part of the faith is to go to confession, which is considered one of 7 sacraments in the belief. Confession is when repentant sinners confess their sins privately to a priest, and then by doing so, your conscience and soul is forgiven of its sins. I feel what I loved most about confession was having someone that is not mom/dad/sibling/friend/etc., and to confess almost anything you felt needed to be said; something on your mind, but usually with a negative connotation. the feeling of “getting something off your chest” was the best part of walking out of confession for me, and I wanted to give a “mind clearing” opportunity for others for whoever want to give a faceless/nameless forum to speak of something they maybe have never told anyone.
Using a field recorder or to gather and collect interviews with any people I could. They were friends, mutual acquaintances, family, or complete strangers; basically, whoever I could get a hold of that agreed to disclose information. The people interviewed will not have their name in the piece, so it stays anonymous. I offered the chance to say anything about a specific person, or thing, without disclosing that persons/peoples name. I also took some field recordings of frozen water fountains, music buskers in a New York City subway, and other various sounds that I felt told a secret, or held a feeling of high intimacy in my heart.
